What
is a virus, and what can I do about it?
A virus is a piece of code written by someone that has the
ability to replicate (and sometimes redistribute) itself, while attaching itself
to programs and files so that it may be executed or passed on.
Most viruses also contain a 'payload' or damage routine, which
can be set to remain dormant until a pre-defined date, or until another event
occurs. At their least harmful, this may be a political or self-serving
message appearing on your PC, and at worst, they can reformat your hard drive or
render your PC unusable.
If your computer crashes more than normal, files are corrupted,
or your PC seems slower than usual, may be a sign that you have a virus.
chemcomp can remove these viruses from your PC before they
'detonate', and can also make backups of your important files and settings.
Additionally, the price of every full virus scan (currently £20)
also includes the installation of an anti-virus scanner, which can be kept
updated with the latest anti-virus definitions, to prevent re-infection.
There are somewhere in the region of 60,000 viruses that are
known about, and roughly 400 new variants are released each week, which is why
now might be a good time to book our services. Contact us for more
information.
